Machinery Import Logistics Case Study|Ocean Freight, Customs Clearance, Warehousing & Delivery
Importing machinery and industrial equipment into Taiwan often involves much more than international transportation alone. The process may include ocean freight arrangements, import customs clearance, port handling, temporary warehousing, and final delivery to the customer’s facility.
In this case study, APG SCM assisted a customer in integrating international transportation with Taiwan-side logistics operations, helping reduce communication gaps between multiple service providers and ensuring that the equipment was delivered according to the project schedule.
Integrated Logistics from Overseas Shipping to Final Delivery in Taiwan
For companies purchasing machinery or industrial equipment from overseas, the real challenge is not simply getting the cargo to Taiwan.
From origin pickup, ocean freight booking, import documentation and customs clearance, to port handling, warehousing and final inland transportation, each step must be properly coordinated.
If any part of the process is delayed, it may affect equipment installation, factory schedules, project milestones, and may even result in additional storage or waiting costs.
For this project, the customer needed to import a batch of industrial equipment into Taiwan and arrange final delivery to a factory on a specific date. APG SCM coordinated international ocean freight, import customs clearance, warehousing, and inland transportation through one integrated logistics solution.
Customer Requirements and Logistics Challenges
The equipment in this shipment included relatively large and heavy cargo, while the customer also had a predetermined installation and site-entry schedule. As a result, the logistics plan had to be closely coordinated with the factory’s project timeline.
The main requirements included:
- Arranging international ocean freight to Taiwan
- Confirming required import and customs documentation
- Monitoring vessel schedules and estimated arrival dates
- Completing customs clearance after arrival
- Arranging temporary warehousing when required
- Scheduling final delivery according to the factory’s receiving date
- Reducing communication between multiple logistics providers
When ocean freight, customs clearance, warehousing and delivery are handled by separate service providers, any change in vessel schedule or customs processing time may require multiple rounds of coordination.
For this reason, the key objective of this project was not simply transportation, but the integration and management of the entire supply chain schedule.
APG SCM Logistics Planning
Before shipment, APG SCM reviewed the equipment dimensions, weight, packaging method, port of origin, destination port, and required delivery schedule.
Based on these details, the transportation plan was arranged according to the cargo characteristics and the customer’s project requirements.
Import documentation was also prepared in advance, allowing the Taiwan customs process to be coordinated before the cargo arrived.
The overall logistics flow included:
Origin Pickup → International Ocean Freight → Arrival in Taiwan → Import Customs Clearance → Cargo Release → Temporary Warehousing → Scheduled Delivery to Factory
By coordinating these steps through a single logistics contact, adjustments could be made more efficiently if vessel schedules, customs processing, or factory receiving times changed.
Coordinating Ocean Freight and Import Customs Clearance
International ocean freight schedules may change due to vessel operations, port congestion, weather conditions, or other factors. Therefore, managing the expected arrival date is an important part of the overall logistics process.
During transportation, APG SCM coordinated the Bill of Lading, commercial invoice, packing list and other required import information so that customs preparation in Taiwan could begin before the cargo arrived.
This approach helps reduce the risk of discovering documentation issues only after the shipment has already reached the port.
For companies importing commercial cargo or industrial equipment, early document preparation can help improve the overall efficiency of customs clearance and reduce unnecessary delays.

Warehousing Provides Greater Scheduling Flexibility
The vessel arrival date does not always match the date when the customer’s factory is ready to receive the equipment.
For example, a shipment may arrive earlier than expected while site preparation is still in progress, or the installation team may not yet be available. Immediate delivery in such situations may create additional operational difficulties.
For this project, the cargo was therefore temporarily stored after customs clearance.
Using warehousing services as a buffer between international transportation and final delivery allowed the customer to arrange equipment arrival according to the actual construction and installation schedule rather than relying entirely on the vessel arrival date.
Final Delivery According to the Factory Schedule
Delivering large industrial equipment requires more than arranging a truck. The receiving location, vehicle access, unloading space, delivery window and on-site coordination should all be confirmed in advance.
APG SCM arranged the final transportation based on the factory’s scheduled receiving time, allowing the equipment to arrive at the designated location while the customer coordinated on-site personnel and installation activities.
Through the integration of ocean freight, customs clearance, warehousing and inland transportation, the customer was able to monitor the entire shipment through one logistics contact rather than coordinating separately with multiple providers.
